(More customer reviews)I live near the ocean. So I wanted to buy a PI metal detector for a reasonable price.
I've got lucky: I bought it for $500 new with $5 shipping... lol
NOTE: you have to register this metal detector within 10 days, otherwise you LOOSE the Warranty (!)

OK,
It works great in salt water. It is SO light. The head phones are very comfortable.
It's easy to operate. It has a volume control switch, which is nice.
I used the highest sensitivity level, and somewhere at 3 o'clock for a threshold.
This little machine is a Beast!!! It goes really deep (14"-18" or even more for larger objects in the salt water).
I have no clue how they managed to put all electronics together in one of the head phones?

The battery department is located in another head phone. You need a quarter to open it.
This unit requires 2 x 9v batteries. I am going to buy a rechargeable batteries...
NOTE: you would need to practice closing the battery panel.
I found an easy way how to do it: press the panel in the middle on one end, and then press
in the corner (left or right - does not matter) on the other end. You'll hear a slight
click. That's it.

I spent almost 4 hours the first day on the beach and then I put a wetsuit and went in the water.
That was lots of fun. People responded very funny: most of them stopped walking and looked at me
like if I came from another planet or something... lol

I found this detector to be fantastic for gold. I did not find gold yet, but I tested it using
my own gold ring. I attached the ring to the stick and put it into the
water (sand) somewhere 18"-20" deep. Wow, it was very loud.
The recovery time is FAST. I tested it with fast/slow motion: it's picking up objects like a magnet.
The pin-pointer is simple: just slowly move your coil till you hear a solid loud tone. It's going
to last for 1-2 seconds and then it stops. It's more then enough time to locate the object precisely.
BUT you have to dig everything with this detector since a pulse detector has no discrimination.

NOTE: I did not want to destroy this little machine, so I did not try to dive (even the manual says that this metal detector is submersible). Who knows. I believe that it was designed to be used on the beach (land) only.
Also, this is an updated model (white head phones with 11" coil). The coil is LIGHT and it does not float.
I attached a piece of the plastic swimming tube to the end of the handle bar, so the upper part of the detector was floating in the water, while the coil was at the bottom.

If you plan to do your search in the salt water (no diving) - this is the BEST detector on the market.
If you get lucky to buy it used (model with white head phones & 11" coil) - go for it.
You'll get lots of fun...
